Definition
蕃 (fān) most commonly means 'luxuriant' or 'flourishing' (as in 蕃盛) and is also used as a variant of 番 'foreign' (e.g. 蕃茄 for 'tomato'). Its pronunciation bō appears only in the historical place name 吐蕃 (Tǔbō). The source gloss 'see 吐蕃' is misleading because this entry uses the fān reading.
