Definition
落马 literally means 'to fall off a horse', but is used figuratively in two main contexts: (1) in politics and corruption cases, to fall from power or be caught; (2) in competitions, to be eliminated. It is a separable verb (离合词): you can insert 了 or 过 between 落 and 马, as in 落了马 ('was eliminated').
