Definition
落泪 (luò lèi) literally means 'to drop tears', i.e. to shed tears or weep. It is a separable verb (离合词): the verb 落 and the object 泪 can be split by a measure word, complement, or duration (e.g. 落了几滴泪 'shed a few tears', 落过泪 'have wept before'). It is more literary than 哭 and often used in written or emotional descriptions.
