Definition
落款 is a separable verb (离合词) that means 'to inscribe one's name, date, or a short dedication' on a work of art, calligraphy, a gift, or a formal document. The verb 落 ('to place') and the noun 款 ('inscription') can split to insert a measure word or object: 落了一个款 ('put an inscription on'), 落什么款 ('what inscription to put'). The subject is usually the artist, owner, or donor.
