莫明其妙 is a common variant of 莫名其妙 (mò míng qí miào), meaning 'baffling, inexplicable, or beyond comprehension'. The difference is subtle: 莫明其妙 literally suggests 'cannot understand its wonder/mystery', while 莫名其妙 means 'cannot name/explain its wonder'. In modern usage they are interchangeable. Use this chengyu to describe something that leaves you confused or makes no sense at all.
