茬 is a classifier (measure word) used for crops grown in successive batches, like the rotations in farmland. You pair it with a number and a crop name: 一茬 (one batch), 两茬 (two batches). It can also refer to the stubble left after harvest, but as a classifier it quantifies the crops themselves or the stubble patches.
