Definition
自负 (zì fù) has two distinct uses: as an adjective it means 'conceited, arrogant' — a stronger, more negative judgment than 骄傲 (jiāo'ào), which can also mean 'proud' in a positive sense. As a verb it means 'to bear/take responsibility (for consequences)', but this is a formal, written usage; for everyday 'to be responsible for' use 负责 (fù zé).
