自由市场 can refer to two related but distinct concepts: (1) the economic idea of a free market where prices are determined by supply and demand with minimal government intervention, and (2) a physical open-air market where vendors sell goods, often informally. The term comes from political economy but is common in everyday Chinese for farmers' markets or street markets.
