Definition
脱皮 is a separable verb (离合词) meaning '(skin, bark, etc.) to peel off or shed'. It can be used for animals shedding skin, human skin peeling after a sunburn, or fruit/vegetable skin coming off. When you need to insert a measure word or a duration, split it into 脱…皮, e.g. 脱了一层皮 ('shed a layer of skin').
