胡乐 (hú yuè) refers to the music of the northern and western non-Han peoples in ancient China, such as the Xiongnu, Xianbei, and Turkic tribes. It was introduced into the Central Plains during the Han, Wei, Jin, and Tang dynasties and had a significant influence on Chinese court music and folk music. The term is often used in historical and musicological contexts to distinguish this foreign-influenced music from traditional Han (华夏) music.
