胜利 (shènglì) is a more formal word for 'to win, to achieve victory', often used for wars, competitions, or significant struggles. It is more formal than 赢 (yíng), the everyday word for winning a game or match. 胜 (shèng) is a literary verb mainly used in compounds and fixed phrases.
