Definition
胚 is a bound form (b.f.) that never appears alone in modern Chinese. It always forms part of compound words, most commonly meaning 'embryo' in animals or 'germ/embryo' in plants. Common compounds include 胚胎 (pēitāi, embryo), 胚芽 (pēiyá, germ/sprout), and 胚层 (pēicéng, germ layer).
