肤浅 (fūqiǎn) describes a person, idea, or work that lacks depth, insight, or substance — it's a negative judgment. It differs from 浅 (qiǎn), which is neutral and literally means 'shallow' (of water, depth, or light color); 肤浅 is always figurative and critical. 漂浮 (piāofú) can also mean 'superficial' but emphasizes being flighty or unreliable in character.
