Definition
而已 (ér yǐ) is a formal, written particle meaning 'that's all, nothing more' — it downplays the significance of what was just said, often paired with 只是 or 不过. Unlike 罢了 (bà le), which can also suggest 'let it be' (with 就), and 得了 (dé le), which often expresses impatience ('that's enough'), 而已 is purely factual and neutral.
