Definition
翻地 is a separable verb (离合词) meaning 'to turn over the soil' — a farming and gardening task done before planting. The verb 翻 and the object 地 can split to insert a measure word or duration between them, e.g. 翻了一次地 ('turned the soil once'). You don't need to use the split form in every sentence, but learners should know that counting or timing goes between the two syllables.
