Definition
羡 is a bound morpheme (b.f.) — it cannot stand alone as an independent word in modern Chinese. It appears as the first or second element in compound words that convey the idea of envy or admiration, such as 羡慕 (xiànmù, to envy/admire) and 艳羡 (yànxiàn, to admire greatly). When you see 羡 in a text, it is always part of a multi-character word.
