Definition
羞愧 (xiū kuì) describes a deep feeling of shame and regret for one's own wrongdoing or failure, with a strong sense of guilt. It is more intense and personal than 羞耻 (xiū chǐ), which focuses on the disgraceful nature of an act, and differs from 惭愧 (cán kuì), which emphasizes apology for one's inadequacy rather than moral shame.
