Definition
置 (zhì) has two distinct formal meanings. As 'to place/put', it is more literary than the everyday 放 (fàng) and often appears in written Chinese. As 'to purchase/acquire', it refers to buying larger items like property or equipment, more formal than 买 (mǎi) and more specific than 购买 (gòumǎi).
