Definition
编组 is a separable verb (离合词) meaning 'to organize into groups' or 'to marshal' — used both for general group formation (e.g., dividing a class into teams) and for railway marshalling (sorting train cars into trains). The verb 编 and the noun 组 can split when inserting measure words or complements: 编成三个组 ('form three groups').
