Definition
缉 is a bound morpheme (b.f.) that appears in compound words related to arresting, seizing, or suppressing illegal activities. Its primary modern sense is 'to arrest' or 'to seize', as in 缉拿 (to arrest), 缉毒 (anti-drug law enforcement), and 缉私 (to suppress smuggling). The older meanings 'twist hemp into thread' and 'brilliant' are rarely used in contemporary Chinese and are not relevant for typical HSK vocabulary. It is pronounced jī, not to be confused with 辑 (jí, compile).
