Definition
绮 (qǐ) is a bound morpheme (b.f.) that appears mainly in literary or formal compounds. It originally referred to figured silk fabric, and by extension describes something fine, delicate, or gorgeously ornate. You'll most often encounter it in two-character words like 绮丽 (qǐlì, 'gorgeous, splendid') and 绮罗 (qǐluó, 'fine silk gauze'). It cannot stand alone as a word; it must always be attached to another character.
