Definition
绞 (jiǎo) means to twist strands into a thread or rope, or to wring liquid out by twisting and squeezing. Unlike 扭 (niǔ, a general twist or turn) and 拧 (nǐng, a screwing motion), 绞 emphasizes combining multiple strands or extracting liquid. It also refers to execution by hanging (绞刑).
