Definition
结伴 is a separable verb (离合词) meaning 'to go together with someone' or 'to form a group'. It is often used with 和/跟 to indicate the companion. When you add a measure word, duration, or other element, the verb splits: 结 becomes the verb and 伴 becomes the object, e.g., 结过伴 ('have formed a companionship before'), 结个伴 ('form a companionship'). You cannot put an object directly after 结伴; instead, say 和他结伴 ('form a companionship with him').
