Definition
绊 (bàn) means 'to trip' — catching your foot on something and losing balance, often used in passive constructions (被/让). It contrasts with 跌 (diē, 'to fall'), which is the result of tripping or other causes, and with 栽 (zāi), which can also mean 'to stumble' but is less specific to foot entanglements. 踩 (cǎi) is simply 'to step on' without tripping.
