Definition
纵 is a bound form in Chinese, rarely used alone — it appears primarily as the first component of two-syllable words. Its key senses are spatial ('vertical, lengthwise', as in 纵横), permissive ('let go, indulge', as in 纵容), and concessive ('even if', as in 纵使). The other senses from the dictionary (shoot an arrow, leap, crumpled) are literary and less common in modern Mandarin.
