Definition
糠 refers to the husk, bran, or chaff of grains (rice, wheat, etc.), the outer covering removed during milling. It is also used figuratively to describe something dry, coarse, or worthless, as in 糠心萝卜 (a radish with a dry, pithy core) or in the idiom 吃糠咽菜 (to eat bran and swallow wild greens — living in extreme poverty).
