Definition
管事 is a separable verb (离合词) meaning 'to be in charge' or, colloquially, 'to be effective'. The verb 管 and the object 事 can be separated by aspect markers (了, 过), complements (不了, 得着), or modifiers (这么大的事). When used in the sense of 'to be effective', it often appears as a whole in the pattern 很管事 or 不管事. Note that 管事 can also be used as a noun meaning 'manager' or 'steward', but that usage is less common and not covered by the verb-object POS here.
