等于 means 'to equal' and is used for mathematical equations or saying two things are equivalent in value or effect. It's more common in everyday speech than the formal 相等 (xiāng děng), which is mainly math/technical. Don't confuse it with 折合 (zhé hé), which specifically means to convert between units or currencies.
