Definition
笃定 is a colloquial word in many dialects of Chinese, especially Shanghainese and other Wu varieties, but increasingly used in standard Mandarin. It conveys a state of being calm and sure — you're so confident in an outcome that you feel completely at ease. It can be used as a stative verb (他很笃定 'he is very composed') or as an adverb meaning 'for sure' (他笃定会来 'he will definitely come').
