Definition
竞技 (jìng jì) means to compete in a contest of athletic skill, especially in organized sports. It is more specific than 竞争 (jìng zhēng), which covers any kind of competition (e.g. business), and more narrowly focused on skill-based contests than 竞赛 (jìng sài), which can include any formal competition. Unlike the simpler verb 赛 (sài), 竞技 is used in formal, athletic contexts.
