Definition
竖立 (shù lì) means 'to erect, to set upright' and is used for placing long objects (poles, flagpoles, statues) into a vertical position. It is more specific than 竖 (shù), which can also mean 'vertical' as an adjective, and different from 架 (jià), which means to set up a frame or structure (e.g., a bridge). For towering buildings or monuments, use 矗立 (chù lì).
