空想 (kōng xiǎng) is a pejorative term for unrealistic fantasies that have no basis in reality and cannot be realized. It implies idle daydreaming or wishful thinking, as opposed to 幻想 (huàn xiǎng) which can be creative or neutral, and 妄想 (wàng xiǎng) which suggests delusion or vain hopes beyond possibility.
