Definition
稣 (sū) rarely appears on its own in modern Chinese. Its most important and almost exclusive use is in the transliteration 耶稣 (Yēsū, Jesus), a proper noun with major cultural and religious significance. In classical texts, 稣 can appear as a variant of 苏 (sū) meaning 'to revive', but this usage is extremely rare today and learners should focus on the 耶稣 compound.
