Definition
移步 is a formal, literary verb meaning 'to take a step' or 'to move one's steps'. It is often used in polite invitations or requests, such as asking someone to step into a room or come over. As a verb-object compound (离合词), it can be split: the object 步 can be separated from 移 with a measure word or complement, as in 移了几步 ('took a few steps'). Use this word in written or very polite spoken contexts.
