Definition
离家 (lí jiā) is a separable verb (离合词) meaning 'to leave home'. The verb 离 can take aspect markers like 了 or 过 between the two halves: 离了家 ('has left home'), 离过家 ('has experienced leaving home'). You cannot put an object after 离家; instead, use 离开家 or specify the destination separately. It is often used for leaving one's family home for work, study, or independence.
