Definition
禄 (lù) is a bound form (b.f.) — it cannot stand alone as an independent word in modern Chinese. Historically it referred to an official's salary or emolument, a key concept in the Confucian scholar-official system. Today you primarily see it in fixed compounds: 俸禄 (fènglù, 'official salary'), 禄位 (lùwèi, 'rank and salary'), and most popularly in 福禄寿 (Fú Lù Shòu, 'blessings, prosperity, longevity') — a common trio of auspicious symbols in Chinese folk culture and New Year decorations.
