Definition
破脸 is a separable verb (离合词) meaning 'to fall out with someone' or 'to turn against someone', literally 'to break face'. It describes the moment when a relationship sours to the point of open conflict — the opposite of 给面子 ('save face'). You can split it with a measure word or duration: 破了脸 ('fell out'), 破过几次脸 ('fell out a few times'). The object of the falling-out is introduced with 跟 or 和: 跟他破了脸 ('fell out with him').
