Definition
知情 is a separable verb (离合词) with two main uses: (1) to know the details of a situation, especially in legal or factual contexts (知情权 'right to know', 知情不报 'know but not report'); (2) in formal/literary use, to feel gratitude or appreciation (知情达理 'sensible and grateful'). As a separable verb, measure words or modifiers can split 知 and 情: 知了不少情 ('knew quite a bit about the situation').
