Definition
相等 (xiāng děng) is a formal verb for exact equality, common in math and abstract comparisons (size, income). 等于 (děng yú) is more everyday and the standard word for equations (e.g. 2+2=4). 相当 (xiāng dāng) as a verb means 'to be equivalent' but usually implies approximate or rough equivalence, not a perfect match.
