盛大 describes events, ceremonies, or gatherings that are grand in scale and splendor — e.g. a grand opening or parade. It differs from 隆重 (lóngzhòng), which emphasizes solemnity and ceremony, and from 宏伟/雄伟 (hóngwěi/xióngwěi), which describe buildings or landscapes as imposing and majestic.
