Definition
盖房 means 'to build a house', but it is a verb-object compound (离合词) — the two syllables can split when you add duration, measure, or frequency. For example, you can say 盖了三间房 ('built three rooms') or 盖了两年房 ('built houses for two years'). The verb 盖 takes the object 房 as a separate unit, so anything that modifies the object goes between them.
