Definition
盎然 is a literary stative verb (v.p.) meaning 'full of, abundant, overflowing' — but it is almost never used alone. It appears in fixed four-character phrases like 春意盎然 ('spring is in the air'), 兴趣盎然 ('full of interest'), and 生机盎然 ('full of vitality'). The preceding noun (春意, 兴趣, 生机) names the quality that is abundant. You cannot say 盎然 alone as a predicate; it requires a two-syllable subject.
