Definition
病院 is a polite term for a specialized hospital, most commonly used for psychiatric hospitals or sanatoriums in Chinese. It contrasts with 医院 (general hospital). You'll see it in formal or medical contexts, but in everyday speech 医院 is far more common. Be aware that some older or regional uses treat 病院 as a euphemism for mental health facilities.
