Definition
画中画 is a set phrase meaning 'picture within a picture' — used in art criticism (a painting that contains a smaller painting inside it) and in technology (picture-in-picture mode on TVs or video apps). The structure is very Chinese: noun + 中 + noun, literally 'painting-inside-painting'. In modern usage the technology sense is very common, so be prepared for both contexts.
