男生 (nánshēng) means 'male student' or colloquially 'guy' — it's the everyday word for a male in school or a young adult male. It differs from 男孩儿 (nánháir), which refers to a younger boy (child), and from 小伙子 (xiǎohuǒzi), which is a more affectionate term for a young man/lad. 男子 (nánzǐ) is more formal and used for adult males in general.
