Definition
生子 is a classical-style separable verb (离合词) meaning 'to give birth to a child' (often a son). The object 子 can be modified with number or measure words inserted between 生 and 子, as in 生了一子 ('gave birth to a son') or 生了三子 ('had three sons'). In modern spoken Chinese, the more common expression is 生孩子, but 生子 appears in formal, literary, or medical contexts.
