甚至 (shèn zhì) is a conjunction meaning 'even' or 'so much so that', used to introduce an extreme or surprising addition that goes beyond what was already stated. It differs from 哪怕 (nǎ pà) 'even if', which introduces a hypothetical concession, and from 以致 (yǐ zhì) 'resulting in', which focuses on an undesirable outcome. 甚至 simply adds a stronger point to the current topic.
