狡猾 (jiǎohuá) is the standard adjective for 'cunning, sly', always derogatory, describing dishonest, manipulative character. Compared to the more colloquial 滑 (huá), which emphasises evasiveness and slickness, 狡猾 is more general and direct. The stronger term 奸诈 (jiānzhà) implies treachery and deeper deception, often used in formal or written contexts.
