Definition
犯难 is a separable verb (离合词) meaning 'to be in a dilemma' or 'to find it difficult to decide'. The verb 犯 and the object 难 can be split: you can insert a measure word, duration, or other elements between them, e.g. 犯了一次难 ('was in a dilemma once'). It is often used in the pattern 为…犯难 ('to be troubled by…') or 对…犯难 ('to find something difficult').
