牛劲 literally means 'ox strength' and is used as a noun to describe either great physical strength or tremendous effort, or stubbornness and tenacity. The two senses are distinct: one is about raw power or hard work, the other about a determined, sometimes obstinate, attitude. It can also refer to a stubborn person in colloquial use.
